The arrival was rocky at best, though the brief turbulance was in the back of everyone's minds. On board the Glory everyone had their demons to deal with - memories long buried coming to light, old faces coming back as new ones, and burning spires of anxiety on the horizon. It had been a good plan, given the circumstances. If it was anyone in the 'Verse who needed a hard earned rest, it was those on board this ship. It was Gulliver who'd made the suggestion of Greenleaf, a place she'd mentioned a few times during her time on board. It was a place she called home, a safe haven that would welcome the crew with open arms, and a tiny speck on the radar to anyone who might mean them harm. That home was Cachetteen, the hidden village of the Brown Hill People. And that morning, as the Glory broke through the atmosphere of Greenleaf to reveal the rolling forests and mountains and valleys below them, Cachetteen was burning.

Last night she had it all worked out. Greenleaf, Glory, and then one little missing piece to the complete picture. Ian Dugan, bring him him. She'd gone to his quarters, with little... if any protest; Sonya ravished him. She knew he liked that aggression, if only from someone he trusted. And she know just how he'd respond after she'd had her way. And wearing the velvet and lace didn't hurt. He always did like the way she stripped out of that. Ian responded, returning each delicious favor and more. ![]() The middle of the night, between repeat performances, the situation changed. Ian's mention of Niska, the tracking possibilities. As she sat on the bed, she rarely slept long anyway, so this was not unusual; Gulliver looked down at the man that had shared so many portions of her life. And yet, she stroked his exposed back, Ian moved and smiled - he was well aware of her sitting up in bed. Not sleeping. It had clicked then. She'd rutted it all up. Sonya was taking Niska, leading the worst to ... to home. Glory isn't a shield from danger, it was a lightning rod for it. Gulliver dressed, gave the Captain; one she had a feeling she was about to betray later when she would refuse to give the location of her hideaway home; gave him a soft kiss to his the crossed scars. He'd not forgive for this. Loving him like this, then slamming the door to his son in his face. But.. but she could take that kind of chance... ======= later.... "How far is it to your homestead?" said Karyn, who would be the only one to see Sonya's face. It was hard, scared. Sonya wasn't going to tell them, she was about to say she had changed her mind, that she couldn't risk the danger of taking Glory home. Just then was when she saw the long range scans. "Wait a minute?" Sonya said. She zoomed in the scanner, the sky was clear. Normally electronic scans were sketchy on Greenleaf, which along with the junglewood foliage made for a perfect place to build a hideaway. The sky was clear except for a thick line of... .... smoke. Gulliver cross referenced, this couldn't be right! Vomit and bile rose in her throat and she forced it back down. Her finger reached over near Karyn and she switched control of the ship to her boards, controls and sticks. As she did Sonya's screens filled with flight data and the scans of a burning village switched to a larger screen that all could see. "That's it!" Glory tore in a straight line to the Brown Village. The grav plates and safety systems couldn't stop the surge of accelleration. ![]() Any fears of her rushing in were diminished as she veered off as Glory closed in. Training and experience held her in check, despite the urge to rush to a quick landing she circled the mountaintop village, smolding in thick columns of smoke. The damage done some time ago. Burned out buildings smoldered, others still burned. "Permission to land Captain." her voice was like from the dead. =============================================== * permission to sex Ian Dugan PC granted by Ian Dugan Player * ... and post was about the last original one saved from the old thread, with a bit of modification... |

Biff sat in his cabin in meditation. Soon they would be on "dry" land again. He longed for the forest and the safety. Cole's arrival vexed him though he had no real reason to let it. His distain for the governments seemingly constant playing God was once again being played out in front of him. He hoped that the forest of Greenleaf would clear his mind. The steady calm of his breathing sent him deeper and deeper into clarity. Tomorrow would be another day. Sonya and Ian would be reunited with their child. A joy I will never again have....I love you Kaitlyn. Sleep takes him shortly after. He dreams of joy. His cortex goes off at six in the morning. Getting up he brushes his teeth and pulls his assault pack out of his ruck. He fills it with ammo, a change of clothes and several pairs of socks, first aid kit and his broken cortex device. He'd rather not need all of that but he never knew what could come. He made sure that Suzanne was prepped and ready; his side arm too. Then he went down the hall towards the galley glancing at his friends Jenna and Remy's cabins. "La la la la la la la." Reaching the galley he cleared his throat prepped and started coffee. "La la la la la la la." Took some lemon juice from the fridge he squeezed it into his mouth and savored the bitter yet familiar taste. Putting it away he walked out towards the cargo bay smiling as the smell of the coffee brewing wafted through the sir. Entering the cargo bay and walking to the middle he glanced at the bacta with the odd devise inside. The cleared his throat gently one last time and then took a deep and cleansing breath. He began to sing. "There's a grief that can't be spoken." Kaitlyn "There's a pain goes on and on. Empty chairs at empty tables Now my friends are dead and gone. Here they talked of revolution. Here it was they lit the flame. Here they sang about tomorrow And tomorrow never came." Cyrus, Saren, Joseph "From the table in the corner They could see a world reborn And they rose with voices ringing And I can hear them now! The very words that they had sung Became their last communion On this lonely barricade at dawn. Oh my friends, my friends forgive me That I live and you are gone." Silas "There's a grief that can't be spoken. There's a pain goes on and on. Phantom faces at the windows." Cianson, Ortiz, Glover "Phantom shadows on the floor. Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friends will meet no more. Oh my friends, my friends, don't ask me What your sacrifice was for" Teddy, Higgy, Vincent "Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friends will sing no more" He lowered his head and took a deep cleansing breath turned on his boot heel and walked back to the smell of the coffee. Karyn had released controls to Sonya since she knew the lay of the land, but once they got overhead and Sonya put the Glory into hover, she could see the consternation on both Sonya and Ian's faces. She toggled control back to her console and nodded her head toward the rear of the ship. "I'll hold her steady, boss. You and Sonya go get the little one, or whatever else you need to do. It'd be better to keep the Glory hot and ready to move if anything comes at us." [- repost from original thread. nothing new yet. -] |

As soon as Ian had felt the ship surge forward he left the Med Bay and Trina to her job of comforting her patient. He got to the Bridge as Sonya had the villiage in the big screen. He shook his head. "Wo Da Ma!" Was his son down there? Was he still alive or dead. Was anyone alive?
"No. Keep her hovering. We may need a fast exit."
Ian shook his head at the surrealness of the situation of seeing Sonya both now and then at the same time. "Good idea." He thumbed the All Comm "All hands, we are going hunting. Get yer guns and meet me in the Cargo Bay. Doc, be ready for wounded." He thumbed the controls off and turned to Mike. "The ship is yours. If you see us in trouble ..." He paused "... Make sure you rush in to get us." He took his Black Duster off the chair and put it on as he left the Bridge. |

Becker was keen to get on land and help others, but Glory always needed a strong head aboard to keep her in check. He sighed through his nostrils and gave a firm nod to Ian. "remember the first rule." Don't die, a sentiment Dugan had shared with him in the past. He took a deep breath and looked out from the view screen at the stark scene before him. "Go se..." He muttered under his breath, then he turned to Karyn. "Hey we've got good eyes up here, let's keep 'em in the know." Becker leaned into the ship wide comm. "Make sure sure you grab personal comms so we can talk." |

Karyn felt the thrusters throb through the yoke in her hands. Her feet balanced the rudder peddles as she danced the Glory into its landing slot, located at the end of one of the main thoroughfares that sliced through the town. Even in the dust, she could see lifeless bodies scattered about. Buildings were torn apart; some smoldering, some still licked by flames. It was out of the vids of a war documentary. She shook her head in disbelief. "Standby, Away Team. I'm setting 'er down in three... " The Glory settled gently on the tremendous force blasting out of her might engines, balancing the huge bulk freighter in a gust of dust and wind. It drifted slightly, this way and that as though looking for the softest landing pad. The thundering roar weakened as it grew closer to the ground until it hovered mere feet short of touching dirt. The hatch popped open to reveal the search and rescue team. |

Sonya was ready first. She had stripped right at the ramp door, put on the light armor then buttoned up with the leathers. None of the flapping dusters for her, she liked to be able to move without something getting hung up on a nail or a fence post. Then the weapon. The big old hand cannon on her left hip - the reliable Alliance issue, not the old revolver from her old pal Doc. A couple various grenades, then the Assault rifle with the scope and plenty of clips. A med kit, flash light, and half a dozen other items all set up on what Dugan had once call 'a bat belt'. She waited while the others assembled, steadied as Karyn counted them down. The fear hit her then. What she had seen. That people were dead. Not just people. That her. flesh. Her son.... Her mind went hard. Dark. A tear was blinked away. First things first. Find Ian. Save Ian. If there... ---Dugan the father would know. if there was... ---Hawke. He'd help her! If he... if her son... was... She'd rutting kill them all! |

Saying Abe was down on her luck right now was an understatement and this was definitely not the way she expected to leave this 'verse. Well maybe it was, but the time table was more accelerated than she liked. She had seen the plumes of smoke on the horizon and figured that maybe her luck could be changed if she did some altruistic act. She expected fire, not a firefight. And she definitely didn't expect some stupid hundan to get a lucky shot off at her and end up catching a bullet. Especially one that managed to nick a major blood vessel just enough to cause a slow bleed. It was slow, but she would die nonetheless. Unless she could get to help. But that was less likely by the minute. Strangely she smiled as she thought about the lucky guy. Well he wasn't so lucky and definitely wasn't as good as he thought. After all, he ended up dead less than a second after her bullet ripped through his brainpan from between his ever loving eyeballs. Well, maybe he was lucky after all. He didn't have to witness the carnage below. She had. Men... women... children... Whoever descended onto this peaceful place had killed indiscriminately. Something sinister was at work here. Abe managed to help some though, or at least she hoped that it helped some of the villagers. It didn't take her long to set up in a high place and figure out exactly who didn't belong. She focused on those people and a good many of them now bore her signature calling card; a single bullet wound to the forehead. She didn't know how many more there could be on the ground, but things had quieted significantly. But she knew something was up when a ship came in low and was settling itself down low enough to provide whoever was inside a quick way to infiltrate. She moved from the place she was sitting against the roof's edge and looked over that way. Her body trembled with weakness and her shoulder and side was pretty well soaked in blood. She tried to raise her rifle to look through the scope, but found it was just a little too heavy. "Sorry, Wyatt," she whispered to what she called her 'boys' as she set it on the roof's edge. "Just too heavy for me now." She drew her trusty favorite sidearm, "Dude." Looking over again the edge again, she knew that using Dude would seriously limit her distance and the way she was now, she didn't know if she'd be able to pull the trigger. A deep in the back of her mind, she knew that the end was near and she wanted to die with him in her hand. God, she just wanted to sleep, but sleep was something she just had to deny herself right now. But she sat back down against the cover of the inside of the roof's edge wall, propped up her leg a little and laid Dude on her thigh. Anyone who might come looking for her would get a serious surprise. At least with the angle she set up, she might be able to get one good shot off. If she was lucky, it'd be someone who was friendly. She wasn't going to hold her breath. She just wanted to go down fighting in a blaze of glory. It was how she imagined it would be and she didn't want to give up that little piece of comfort.

An air of calm blew through the small village. From her vantage point, Abe was all but choked by the smoke - it snuck into her nose, her mouth, deep columns spiralling down into her lungs. But it was the smell that did the most damage - burning fuel, wood... flesh. A pungent smell that had laid waste to the entire village, the kind of smell one would expect to find in the deepest circle of hell. Glory set down, softly as ever despite the urgency of their landing, and the dust had barely settled by the time the cargo doors were open and the small land party were dirtside. The Glory had settled down hill from the town - from where they stood, Ian and his rescue group could see the pillars of smoke rising above the jungle ahead of them. Unfortunately, his was as close as they could get, and it was an uphill struggle through the thick jungle before they reached the village. The air was eerily quiet, save for the sounds of birds chirping in the jungle canopy. No shouts, not screams, nobody crying out for help. Abe saw the ship drop down - clearly a transport vessel, clearly civilian - and disappear from view down in the valley. Despite her nerves being on edge, it seemed this new arrival differed from the others, the ones who'd razed the village. Around the village itself, there was no movement. Just bodies. All around, empty, still bodies. |

It hadn't hit him yet. He was still in 'command' mode. Or as some used to tell him ... 'Big Damn Hero' mode He thumbed the All Comm from the comm station "Biff, Hawke ..." He knew that his son was down there, somewhere, but he didn't feel anything. "... get yer Pi-Gu's to the Cargo Bay ..." His son could be dead. He had seen a lot of bodies in the seconds before Karyn took the ship away from the village for a safe drop. Even with that knowledge, Ian realized that he did not feel anything What kinda Hwoon Dahn am I, he thought "... Bring your weapons. On the Bounce, guys. Double time it." Mike's voice came through as Sonya dropped her clothes.
"Roger, Bridge." Sonya had stripped down to the almost nothings she costomarily wore and his mind went to the night before. It was not 'Love Making' ... just two people that enjoied each other. But he still did not feel anything. He looked around the bay and saw what he usually saw. Death, Glory and Sareen. He sooh his head and passed out the Comabt Comms as Sonya finished up.
"Roger Bridge. How do you read?" He spoke over the comm unit as the big door irised open and the smells of death and destruction wafted into the bay. He looked again at Sonya, she was his Life. Then to Death herself, Sonya's oppisite. He felt in his heart that, at that moment, Sonya and Death were not so far apart. If his son were hust, there would be hell to pay. If he were dead ... No Power in the 'Verse would stop him from bring Death to those responsible. The ship hovered ten feet as Ian looked around and stepped ont into the air, dropping to the ground |

Sonya took the ten foot leap and then took the lead. She knew exactly where they were, the lower end of the ridge, thick with jungle and clear of the blow of the smoke. And for the moment, the smell. It was thicker that the deep jungle below out in the vast expanses. Up on the ridge light reached to the ground so the thick foliage was difficult despite the frequent foot traffic on the twisting paths. These she avoid. Once Glory was away the birds could be heard. It was just the jungle. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Just another climb back home from the lower elevations. Then she almost stepped on Juan Pierre and Marie. Lovers. Leaders of the community. Friends. Sonya didn't have to check. They were dead. Bloody bad torn up was Marie. Gulliver swallowed vomit that tried to come up; refused to recognize a tear that dripped down her sweaty face. She stopped and looked around to see where the others were, her own dead eyes met those of Captain Dugan. Her teeth gritted together as she almost turned to rush into the village. She held the look between them, not so much as a nod to acknowledge the shared feeling. Instead of storming in with rage; she just stepped clear of the jungle and over more bodies. More people she knew. Anyone she could see... that she didn't know.... The assault rifle was raised up and pointed forward between two smoking buildings at the end of the village. |

Hearing the call to arms from his room after the peacefull morning Biff locked and loaded rucked up his assault pack and made for the cargo bay. Meeting the rest there he was all business. The canopy made his heart skip a beat. He needed this after being cooped up in the ship for so long. "Ready Captain." He said it low enough to check comms and steadied himself to move out. ________ Landing woke Cole from the first peacefull rest he could remember. These people didn't act like they were holding him prisoner but he never saw those that boarded the Siren's Call. He would play it by ear on how to deal with them and escape. He was finally clearing some of the fog in his head. When the doc comes back in he may just ask about some clothes. |

"Crystal," commented Becker, responding to Dugan's check for clarity in communications. He leaned forward toward the viewscreen, a hand above the console propping him up. "What can we do K?" Known to shorten names, Mike's abbreviation for Karyn's name had been slowly emerging recently. She had yet to let on about how she felt about it, though he was sure she would if she took issue. "We should run checks how ever we can. For another ship maybe? Are the bad guys here or long gone." He didn't figure the trouble for local. Someone arrived and raised hell, whether they were finished was a pressing matter now his friends had hit dirt. "If this is a message is for us," maybe something more is waiting for us. Becker continued to play detective as events unfolded. |

Karyn snorted at the short form name calling. It didn't bother her; she had had a lot worse in her "Service Career" and the familiarity of it from Mike was refreshing. She eased up on the thrusters, letting them idle for a brief moment before tickling the altitude jets to gain a bit of room over the tree tops. "I've got full 360 on short range and full overhead at long. If there's someone else out there, we'll catch them soon enough. Hugging the tree line will help to keep us in defilade from anyone short of physical proximity." She panned her eyes across the instruments and then back to the raising column of smoke. "Shall we do a slow dance around the perimeter? Check for potential snipers? I'd recon against going down the main thoroughfare as that would just be asking for a stinger up our ass. " |

The valley was dead quiet, save for the woeful song of birds high in the trees, watching the grisly sight unfold. As the away team slowly made their way up the ridge, stumbling upon the remnants of Sonya's once friends, the smell of smoke wafted through the trees. Getting still close to the town, the crackling of flames could be heard. And then bang! A gunshot, followed by a second and third, loud bangs echoing throughout the entire valley. The direction was almost indistinguishable - the party could only assume the fire was coming from the ruins of the village. Nestled up in the chaos itself, Abe had a better bearing on the shots - the caves. They were coming from the caves. Back on Glory the scans were showing nothing, as expected. If there were any ships in the air, or on the ground, any beacons at all, they were lying incredibly low to be missed by the high tech scanners on board the transport ship. And then, over the speakers, an immense crackling echoed throughout the bridge. A signal of some sorts, a garbled communication of indistinguishable words. Then the shots echoed out, heard from even within the Glory's bridge. The communication ended there. Silence. |

Ian saw Sonya's expression as she moved through and over the dead. These were her family. Her Friends he thought as he followed suit. If this is Neiska, he'll pay for sure They had just cleared the foliage when two things happened. Ian saw a few bodies, dressed different from the villiagers. They each had a neat bullet hole right in the middle of thier forehead, right between the eyes. He realized he knew this partictular calling card. "Abe??" Then he heard the gunshots. Ghost and Ryder flew to his hands. Over the ear bud he spoke. "Glory, this is Dugan. Did you get a direction on that?" |

Things on the ground to prepare for, potentially, and a still recovering Cole in the medbay, Trina headed back to medical a small parcel in her arms. Silently, she prayed for those they were looking for to be well and found safe. She also prayed for Cole. Nothing specific, but a safe and full recovery at least physically. As she entered medical, she noticed he seemed to be awake. "Good morning." There was a tinge of worry that seeped through, but she was honestly glad to see Cole awake and it showed in her smile. "I... I hope you don't mind, but I managed to find some clothes that I think might fit you. Or, as close as I could guess. Better than a hospital gown or... well, nothing." Every time she saw him, the memories of his body on the table and the blood bag sending him what little life she could spare from her own veins danced in the periphery of her mind. He looked so much better now than he had at that point in time. And she could never tell him. Not unless he remembered it on his own. Approaching the bed, she laid the small bundle of clothing at his feet. "How are you feeling?" Her eyes looked him over physically, and while the study was clinical, there was a heavy dose of actual concern for his well being that she'd often been told was missing from most doctors. |

Karyn stabbed at several switches, trying to get a trace on the signal before it went dead. The shots rang through the intercom, feeding back from the away team's comms. She attempted to get a triangulation, but there was no time to get a true bearing. "Negative. Too short a burst and echoes all over the canyon walls. There was a brief transmit but unintelligible. I have it recorded, but it might take awhile to dig out the content from the static. What's your status? Are you taking fire?" |

Cole smiled at Trina. Something about her was so familiar but he wasn't sure if up was down so he couldn't dwell on it too much. "Hey..morning. Trina right? Everything's a mess up here" He pointed to his head. "Thanks." Taking the offered clothes he put on a t shirt, socks, and a flight suit. Zipping the grey flight suit up he found it was an alright fit. A little loose but one didn't need a flight suit hugging too tight. Cole looked at her a moment and thought about it. How could he trust these people? Other then knowing his name what had they done to him or the rest of the crew. "I'm still in a great deal of pain, but it comes and goes now. Am I a prisoner here?" _____________ Biff was in hypervigilant mode. Scanning every possible place a threat could be. It always amazed him that he could still do what he was trained to do with the war over and all. Moving through the trees he could fan out farther from everyone since the comms they had were so good. As he started to pass the charred remains of folk who meant something to Sonya he could only imagine what must be going through her mind. Hearing the shots he hit the ground completly proned out sighting down Suzanne he heard Dugan ask for clarity. Karyn's answer was enigmatic at best. "Boss, best I can tell it came from the village...or over...I'm not one hundred percent." |
